Here’s the finished video for rec.tangle staring the Meadowship…

Continued from previous post…

10. The villa’s base in situ with the path painted on.

11. Close up showing the installed light bulbs.

12. The final Meadowship. Curved painted background in place and stood on a cake decoarting turntable! The flock has been adhered and the villa and a few tress have been stuck into position.  The lights are on and a few extra details are put in, including a tractor in the garage and some patio chairs.  It’s ready to shoot!

Here are some photos of the making of the Meadowship from my music video The Meadow Green for rec.tangle.

1. I had a few 500mm diameter polystyrene spheres left over from a previous job and I used half for the bottom of the Meadowship with a base made and of card and edged with greyboard glued into a curved formation.

2. Sketchbook plans for the building influenced by the Villas Arpel from Jacques Tati’s Mon Oncle.

3. The villa worked up further in Illustrator.

4.The base prepared for being covered in mod roc.

5. Mod roc dried and supporting a mock up of the villa.

6. Mod roc is a thirsty substance and several coats of undercoat are needed before applying flock adhesive… also cork chips have been glued into position to form rock outcrops.  Here they have an undercoat of black paint to act as shadows and cracks for the eventual top coats of grey and white (which are applied with a dry brush).

7. Detail of a loading dock designed in Photoshop and created with card and print outs and sunk into position.

8. Two computer fans were used for these…

9. The plan for villa is copied onto tracing paper to be applied on the base…

More to follow…

Entry for e4’s e-stings competition in 2009, that I did in… 2009.  I spent ages making those little tents!

ANOTHER EARTH

A couple of months ago I worked on this video for Glint (a new motion studio in London fronted by Rupert Cresswell).  The video is a promo for the soundtrack to the film Another Earth.  The soundtrack was created by Fall On Your Sword who are based in NYC.

My contribution was to film various things against a blue screen (e.g. floating books and the paint that splatters on the planet) and bits of stop motion, which were then composited by Rupert into what you see here.

Here’s a paper / card boom box that I made for a photoshoot for Twenty6 Magazine a little while back.  Lou Taylor made the other paper props, Arthur Woodcroft photographed it, Matt Setchell art directed it and Thea Lewis was the stylist…

Lou Taylor and I were asked by the Brighton Dome to come up with a poster for the Paper Festival seeing as we like all things to do with paper!  Lou created some paper butterflies that I shot and composited into this poster design.

These are some test shots for the next video I’m doing for The Robot Heart.  Here Bob the bassist meets his demise at the jaws of some horrible bears…

Here’s a lo-res movie of some of the ‘chroma spheres’ I had to create for a music video I helped out on recently.  The idea here is that the blue sphere is keyed out and all that remains is the paint that is then composited onto another piece of video footage… was very satisfying to do!

The video is for NYC-based composers Fall On Your Own Sword’s soundtrack for forthcoming feature film Another Earth.  The video was directed by Rupert Cresswell of Glint.

Have been busy this week creating some stop-motion sequences for a music video for a new motion studio in London… this was a lot of fun!
